Rapido to release Great North of Scotland 'D40' in 'OO'

Rapido Trains UK is set to release a new 'OO' gauge model of the London and North Eastern Railway 'D40' 4-4-0 locomotive. The 'D40' class was originally built for the Great North of Scotland Railway (GNSR) and later inherited by the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) and British Railways (BR).

The 'D40' class comprises two types: the 'V' and 'F' 4-4-0s, built between 1899 and 1921. The LNER designated both types as 'D40', with 18 locomotives inherited by BR in 1948. All were withdrawn by 1958, but one, '49 Gordon Highlander', was preserved and is now on display at the Riverside Museum in Glasgow.

Some models will be exclusively available from Rails of Sheffield, while an exclusive model of '49 Gordon Highlander' in its present-day condition will be produced for the Scottish Railway Preservation Society.

The model is currently in the tooling phase, with prices set at £229.95 DCC Ready and £344.95 DCC sound-fitted. A release date is to be confirmed.
