Rapido releases new OO gauge pre-grouping wagons and brake vans

Published Friday 24 April 2026

Rapido Trains UK has announced two new ranges of OO Gauge wagons – South Eastern Railway (SER) and South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR) 10‑ton open wagons and SER/SECR 20‑ton six‑wheel brake vans.

10‑ton open wagons

These wagons are available in variants with full round, low‑D and flat ends. Liveries include SER, SECR and Southern Railway (SR) colours. Low‑D models can be finished to depict Williams Pattern sheet rail, either in an operational or stowed position.

The concept of 10‑ton five‑plank open wagons dates back to the late nineteenth century, when freight traffic on the South Eastern Railway surged. To keep services running smoothly, the railway started hiring wagons until it placed orders for 2,000 units, built both in Ashford Works and by independent suppliers.

20‑ton six‑wheel brake vans

This series is based on brake vans built in 1898, which were similar to those used by the Midland Railway. An initial batch of 40 was constructed; after the 1910 amalgamation of the South Eastern Railway and the London Chatham and Dover Railway into the SECR, a further 50 were produced, featuring enclosed verandas at both ends.

New editions will cost £39.95 and will be released in both single‑ and dual‑veranda versions, with liveries covering SER, SECR, SR, BR and preservation. Plain grey and brown options will also be available for modelers wishing to create custom looks.
