Rapido Trains UK is currently working on a new 'OO' gauge model of the Southern Railway's 'U' 2-6-0 locomotive. This project is at the tooling phase, with the model focusing on newly built locomotives, rather than those rebuilt from 'River' 2-6-4Ts.
The model will feature several detail differences, including:
- Flush and riveted buffer beams
- Flat or rounded domes
- Two patterns of cylinders and snifting valves
- Automatic Warning System gear
- Smoke deflectors
All locomotives will be paired with 4,000 gallon tenders. The model will be available in various BR liveries, including:
- BR black with 'sunshine' lettering (992005)
- BR black (992006)
- BR lined black with early crests (992007-8)
- BR lined black with late crests (992009/10)
DCC Ready models will be priced at £229.95, while DCC sound-fitted models will be priced at £344.95. A release date has not yet been confirmed.
