Rapido Trains UK has revealed a new livery for its OO gauge 48āft ‘Evolution’ Bogie Coaches (Batch 3). The addition is GWR Lined Crimson Lake, a design that reflects the coaching stock used by the Great Western Railway between 1912 and 1922. The models are now available for preāorder.
The announcement comes shortly after the launch of Rapido’s GWR 45xx ‘Small Prairie’ 2-6-2T tank locomotive. The new coaches are intended to provide eraāappropriate formations for the new locomotive. Instead of waiting for a future batch, the livery has been incorporated into the existing third batch of the Evolution range.
The range consists of nonācorridor body variants in the following types:
- Brake Third
- Third
- First
- Composite
- Full Brake
A triple pack is also available, comprising:
- Nonācorridor Brake Third
- Nonācorridor Third
- Nonācorridor Composite
All GWR Lined Crimson Lake versions are generic 48āft bogie coaches, detailed to reflect preāgrouping practice.
Single coaches carry alternative running numbers to their multipack counterparts. The Full Brake and First are available as individual models.
Like other models in the ‘Evolution’ range, the new GWR Lined Crimson Lake coaches include:
- Internal lighting operated by a magnetic wand
- Lighting adjustable via an integrated potentiometer
- Numerous parts fitted separately, both internally and externally
- A fully detailed guard’s van/luggage compartment interior
- NEM coupling pockets
- Optional closeācoupling bar included
- All coaches feature a clerestory roof, except the Full Brake, which has an elliptical roof. Roofs are removable to allow the fitting of interior figures.
- Interior detailing includes luggage racks, picture frames on compartment dividers and gas light fittings.
Prototype information
The GWR Lined Crimson Lake livery represents coaching stock carried by the Great Western Railway during 1912ā1922. During this period the GWR repainted its rolling stock into a number of different liveries.
The models are generic 48āft bogie coaches, reflecting key design features associated with preāgrouping coaching stock of the era.
