Kernow Model Rail Centre has announced a new production run of their popular LBSC 'Open A', SR Diagram 1369 five plank open wagons in LBSC liveries, available in OO gauge. Following the success of the previous models, which quickly sold out, three new versions with different running numbers are being produced, in addition to the three existing LBSC livery versions.
Model Specification
The models feature:
- Tooling designed, developed, and owned by Kernow Model Rail Centre
- Post-1912 diagonal strapping, rounded ends, and fully posable sheet rail
- Wooden chassis with 8 open spoke or LBSC 4-hole disc wheels
- LB&SCR, SR lettered or plain axle box covers
- Prototypical brake gear and safety loops fitted
- Sprung metal buffers and etched brake handles
- Coupling hooks and metal three link couplings
New Models
The six new LBSC livery models currently in production are:
- SB009A: LBSC Diagram 1369, No. 4342
- SB009B: LBSC Diagram 1369, No. 4206
- SB009R: LBSC Diagram 1369, No. 3346 (as preserved on Bluebell Railway)
- SB009V: LBSC Diagram 1369, No. 4333
- SB009W: LBSC Diagram 1369, No. 6139
- SB009X: LBSC Diagram 1369, No. 966
These models are priced at £32.99 and are due to arrive during the summer. Other livery versions, including square-ended Diagram 1364 wagons, are available to order now.
About the Prototype
The 10-ton five plank 'Open A' wagon, later SR Diagram 1369, was the most numerous LBSC wagon, with over 3,500 built between 1905 and 1926. The distinctive curved ends allowed for a tarpaulin sheet rail to be fitted. An example of this wagon in LBSC livery is preserved at the Bluebell Railway, and version SB009R represents this wagon as preserved.
