Bachmann has unveiled a new exclusive addition to its Railway Icons collection—a replica of the North Eastern Railway snowplough in OO gauge.
The original snowploughs of this class were constructed in 1887. Each featured a six‑wheel chassis, initially built of wood before a metal version was introduced later on. A total of twenty‑four units were produced between 1887 and 1907. The last of these was withdrawn by British Rail in 1975; as a result, plough 12 was selected for the National Collection and is now displayed at Locomotion in Shildon.
In the new model, various components are installed separately: handrails, a chimney and lamp irons. The lamp irons are posable, allowing them to be affixed to the plough blade. Inside, the replica includes a fully detailed cabin complete with a stove, handbrake and seats, flush‑glazed windows and an NEM coupling pocket at the rear.
The opening batch will contain four units:
Prices are £69.95 each or £129.99 for the twin packs. The release is scheduled for 2026.
