GWR 2‑6‑0 2600 Aberdare – new tooling

The GWR 2600 Class, commonly known as the Aberdares, were built for the Great Western Railway between 1900 and 1907. Designed under the direction of William Dean, the class consisted of 80 heavy freight 2‑6‑0 locomotives primarily intended for hauling coal, especially from South Wales. The design followed the Great Western’s standardisation policy of the period, sharing components and layout features with other classes.

Withdrawals began in 1934, although several locomotives were kept in storage and re‑activated during the early years of the Second World War to meet the increased freight demand. The final examples were withdrawn by 1949.

Caledonian Railway Class 264/611 Pug – new tooling

Some of these locomotives were fitted with a small improvised coal tender behind them to extend their coal capacity beyond the original saddle tank. After the 1923 Grouping they entered the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and later British Railways in 1948. Withdrawals were completed between 1959 and 1962, and no examples of the class were preserved.
