Hornby has unveiled decorated samples of its Dublo LNER Silver Jubilee collection of London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) 'A4' 4-6-2s at The Greatest Gathering in early August. The collection commemorates the 90th anniversary of the class and features four models, each representing a locomotive that hauled the iconic Silver Jubilee service from King's Cross to Newcastle.
The LNER 'A4' locomotives were designed to haul the Silver Jubilee service, which was inaugurated on 30 September 1935. The service was suspended at the start of the Second World War and never reinstated. Hornby's 'OO' gauge Silver Jubilee collection includes models of all four silver LNER 'A4s': 2509 Silver Link, 2510 Quicksilver, 2511 Silver King, and 2512 Silver Fox.
Each model features a single chimney and streamlined corridor tender, and utilises the 2022-introduced Hornby Dublo 'A4' tooling. The models are made with die-cast metal locomotive bodies, feature firebox glow, and have a push-fit locomotive-to-tender connection. They are also equipped with a five-pole motor and a 21-pin Digital Command Control decoder socket in the tender.
The four locomotives are due to arrive in the autumn and are priced at £320.99 each. For more information, visit www.hornby.com.
