Richard Foord, MP for Honiton and Sidmouth, recently visited PECO Model Railways in Beer, Devon, to learn about the company's operations and expansion plans. PECO, founded in 1946, is the world's largest manufacturer of model railway track and has been family-owned for three generations.
PECO was founded by Sydney Pritchard, who developed a unique coupling product for model trains during World War II. The company has a workforce of 170, with some employees having worked for over 50 years.
PECO products are designed, engineered, and produced in its factory at Beer, and are stocked by over 300 independent retailers across the UK and distributed to over 35 countries worldwide.
PECO is committed to being environmentally responsible, with trackwork part-manufactured from recycled plastic processed on-site. The company operates a miniature railway, Pecorama, which celebrates its 50th year of operations this summer.
Richard Foord MP was impressed by PECO's commitment to British manufacturing and its heritage.
The MP praised the company, saying, "It's so impressive to see a manufacturer with this kind of history, right here in Devon and wonderful that so many of its staff are locals from the surrounding area."
