Dapol is introducing a brand new assortment of JNA-Y bogie ballast wagons for OO gauge, with the project having already reached an advanced stage of development.
The JNA-Ys, also called Hawks, are employed by Network Rail for engineering tasks across the network. They underwent extensive refurbishment from MRA side‑tipping wagons in 2023 and are hauled by a range of locomotives including classes 37, 60, 66 and 69.
Development prototypes are being assessed by Dapol’s engineering team and include wagons converted from both middle and end MRAs, with subtle differences between the two types reproduced.
Each wagon will boast a die‑cast chassis, a kinematic NEM coupling pocket and polished metal wheels. Dapol has taken the previously produced MRA wagons as the foundation for these new models, which will showcase upgraded bogie, chassis and buffer‑beam detail. They plan to streamline the buffer‑head profile and eliminate any unnecessary holes in the chassis sides before production.
Six OO gauge wagons are scheduled, consisting of four interior and two exterior wagons, all in Network Rail yellow.
Sold individually, each unit costs £44.95 and is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026.
