Accurascale has made a revision to the hood design for their forthcoming BR Diagram 1/051 china clay wagon models in OO gauge. The new hood is a more accurate representation of the prototype, which was built between 1954 and 1960. The original tarpaulin sheet frames were later replaced with 'pent' hoods, giving the wagons their distinctive 'clay hood' nickname.
The initial design was based on a preserved wagon with a shorter tarpaulin sheet frame, but a new hood with the correct height has now been tooled. This upgrade has not affected the delivery timeline, with the models still scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The BR china clay wagons will be available in triple-packs, featuring removable hoods, separately fitted details, metal bearings, blackened wheels, and a die-cast metal chassis. There will be 12 triple-packs available, with six packs featuring the original flat hoods and six packs featuring the revised 'pent' hoods. Each pack is priced at £89.95.
