Accurascale unveils newly tooled class73/9 model

Published Friday 12 December 2025

Accurascale has announced the latest addition to its Exclusive collection: a freshly tooled 4mm scale replica of the rebuilt Wabtec/GB Railfreight Class 73/9 electro‑diesel locomotive.

This model emerges after comprehensive research and a licensing agreement with GB Railfreight, aiming to fill a long‑standing void in the ready‑to‑run market for contemporary locomotives. The project, which has spanned several years, draws on both historical data and information from the current rebuilt fleet.

The first production run will feature locomotives from both the GBRf and Caledonian Sleeper fleets, with tooling tailored to each period and condition. Early and present‑day specialists are all included.

Accurascale emphasises that the Class 73/9 tooling represents one of the most intricate projects to date, encompassing multiple body shells, cab fronts, roof styles, fuel tank choices, exhaust setups and underframe fits. The intent is to faithfully capture the distinctive engineering changes from the rebuild programme, such as upgraded cooling systems, refreshed electrical equipment and the MTU 8V4000R43L engine installed on the eleven locomotives being modelled.

Each model will be available either in DC/DCC‑ready or factory‑fitted DCC sound format. As with the rest of the Exclusive range, releases are sold direct to customers and include a lifetime guarantee, free UK delivery and loyalty points on all purchases.

The Class 73/9 collection can be ordered via the Accurascale website.

Delivery is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
