Accurascale has announced a second batch of its ‘OO’ gauge Mk5 sleeper coaches, with delivery slated for the first quarter of 2027.
These new Mk 5 Caledonian Sleeper coaches, originally built by Spanish manufacturer CAF between 2016 and 2018, entered service in 2019. They operate on overnight London‑to‑Scotland sleeper services along the West Coast Main Line, hauled by Class 92 locomotives, and are occasionally seen in Scotland pulled by Class 66 or Class 73/9 engines. They can also be found on the East Coast Main Line during diversions caused by engineering works.
During the first production run, the Mk 5 coaches were sold in groups of four. For this latest release, each end‑unit will be available individually, and all will sport new running numbers. A total of 18 coaches are planned across four coach types:
By design, all will share the specifications of the first wave of ‘OO’ gauge coaches: turned metal wheels, prism‑free glazing, detailed underframes and interiors, interior lighting controlled by an integrated magnetic wand, factory‑fitted stay‑alive capacitors, and NEM coupling pockets.
The coaches will retail at £59.45 each and will be available exclusively through the Accurascale website, with delivery anticipated in the first quarter of 2027. Further news about Accurascale’s Mk 5a coaches is expected to come in the new year.
