Accurascale announces exclusive Heavy Tractor Group Class 37 D6724

Published Thursday 23 April 2026

Accurascale has revealed a new exclusive OO gauge Class 37, produced in partnership with the Heavy Tractor Group. The model represents No. D6724 in 1960s British Railways green with small yellow warning panels, continuing the manufacturer’s practice of collaborating with preservation societies to support their work.

This partnership gives access to measurement, scanning, research and sound recording, while also raising funds for ongoing restoration and operation.

The locomotive is depicted in early British Railways green with small yellow warning panels, reflecting its appearance in the 1960s. The finish is finished using Accurascale’s established standards of printing and fine detail application.

The new release builds on Accurascale’s existing Class 37 tooling, incorporating refinements introduced on its most recent production run. Notable features include:

The model is die‑cast and weighs approximately 695 g, with all wheel drive. Each example is supplied with both printed and etched works plates and builder’s plaques, presented in special packaging.

D6724 was built at English Electric’s Vulcan Foundry in August 1961 and was first allocated to March before moving to Stratford. At Stratford it undertook a range of duties, including passenger, parcels and freight work, and the Manchester to Harwich boat train.

In 1966 it returned to March and later moved between depots before transferring to Thornaby in February 1974, where it was renumbered 37024 under TOPS. Following collision damage in 1980, it received plated nose doors.

After refurbishment at BREL Crewe in 1988, it emerged as 37714 in Railfreight Metals livery as a Class 37,7, later carrying the name Thornaby Depot. It passed to EWS at privatisation, was stored in 2000, and reinstated in 2001 for work in Spain on the AVE high‑speed network.

Returning to the UK in 2011, it entered service with Direct Rail Services before being loaned to the Heavy Tractor Group in 2016. It is now operating at the Great Central Railway in Railfreight triple‑grey livery.

Prices remain unchanged from the previous run. The DC, DCC‑ready version is priced at £189.95 and the DCC sound‑fitted model at £289.95.

The model can be pre‑ordered exclusively via the Accurascale website, with delivery scheduled for Q2 2027 alongside the next Class 37 production run.
