Accurascale is set to launch a brand‑new BR 20‑ton brake van for OO gauge, the first of its type in the company’s lineup.
Its design is rooted firmly in the London & North Eastern Railway era, where the ‘Toad D’ established itself as the standard 20‑ton brake van for British Railways, with production continuing into the early 1960s.
Accurascale’s new models will trace the journey of these common vehicles from the LNER ‘Toad D’ appearance through to the end of their service lives during the privatisation period.
The manufacturer’s extensive kit of tooling will accommodate detail variations introduced over the decades, covering different buffer styles, lamp‑iron positions, three types of axle box, four braking arrangements, changes to hand‑rails, air‑horns where fitted, safety bars where required, track‑powered interior lighting and a standby system for uninterrupted operation. Tail and side lamps will be purely decorative, while the interior will feature a functional cabin lantern and a glow‑stove.
The new models will also include a die‑cast metal floor, and Accurascale pledges a highly detailed body and underframe, machined metal wheels and small tension‑lock couplings housed in NEM pockets.
Colour options planned for the initial release are:
Each van is priced at £39.95, with delivery expected in early 2027.
