Rapido have made a name for themselves, creating superb highly detailed models of quirky prototypes and pre-grouping engines. One of their most recent releases - the LNER Y7 (or NER H Class as seen in this livery) fits both of those niches very nicely. This diminutive 0-4-0 is one of the small locos I've come across and while it may have the proportions of a toy train, the Y7 is very much a real loco. In fact two survive in the present day and this particular model is of No.1310 as preserved.
Featuring a NEXT18 and built in speaker, plus plenty of high quality detail, the Y7 is sure to impress modellers and I can see this model finding a home on many small shunting layouts in the future. But with that small wheelbase, will the Rapido Y7 have any issues with stalling and what's up with those couplings?
