For me, there's nothing more exciting than starting a new project - I even prefer it to finishing! The anticipation of what's to come, the careful research into the real thing and possible new techniques, the excitement of opening the box! Well that's the emotions I felt when this kit from Diorama Blitz arrived over the summer.

For many people, opening that box is daunting. There's so many pieces, techniques and things to screw up! Hopefully this next series of videos will help you feel more confident to just open the box and have a go.

This kit is a really beautiful one that Doug Foscale sent me from his new range Diorama Blitz. Building a kit is always easier when you have a great manufacturer. The parts look detailed and fit together well.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to assemble it, paint the various areas with different techniques and add details that bring it to life.

I chose the Kino kit because I liked the round window. It reminds me of a scene from Transformers which just happen to be the same scale...

Now this is a 1/35 kit but the techniques work well across most scales. It may be a little harder to get the detail on the painting but the techniques themselves remain the same.

Top Tips for Kits

Read the Instructions!
Nail files are great ways to take off the nubs where laser cut parts are held together
You can glue with normal white glue but thicker glues add less water and often dry sooner
Leave pieces on the board until you need them
Use squares to make sure everything lines up
Wood will warp - weight everything when it's drying
Paint both sides or the wood will warp
Prime with a solvent based paint
Brace any flat pieces of wood
Read the Instructions!
