In 1949, British Railways introduced the remarkable Tavern Cars, unique coaches designed to recreate the atmosphere of an old English pub while travelling. Complete with imitation oak beams, tiled floors, lantern-style lighting and even painted pub signs, these extraordinary vehicles offered passengers a truly different railway experience.
