Following our first review of the all-new LMS liveried Stanier 'Princess Royal' 4-6-2 from Hornby (HM154), the first of the BR versions arrived for inspection. Our sample models 46207 Princess Arthur of Connaught with late BR crests on the tender sides and, naturally, we were keen to test its performance against the first model of 6201 Princess Elizabeth.
Highlights of the new Hornby 'Princess' include extensive detailing, sprung metal buffers, turned metal wheels, prototypical daylight through the frames, separately fitted handrails, exquisite livery application and a fully detailed cab. In addition the models also have a five-pole motor and flywheel, firebox glow LED, an 8-pin DCC decoder socket in the tender and space for a 28mm round speaker too. NEM coupling pockets are provided front and rear together with a detailing pack containing brake rigging, cylinder drain cocks and a spare coupling.
Watch the two 'Princesses' running on our test track here at the head of suitable period trains.
