Manufacturer description

Model features:

165 vacuum braked Borails were built to diagrams 1/482 and 1/483 in the late 1950s. The Borails were built with 8' plate bogies and vacuum brakes.

During the mid-1980s the Borail BRAs were moved into Departmental use and some remain in use today. The move to Departmental use saw the YLAs used to transport rail from Workington to various BR depots. Many Mullets remain in Departmental use and can often be found with several at the head of an engineers train. Since 2018 EWS/DB have used Mullets to carry out of gauge pipes from Hartlepool to Georgemas Junction, some have been repainted into EWS livery.

Revolution Trains YLA Mullets in EWS livery are supplied as a twin pack comprising wagon numbers DC967583 and DC967603. The model is identified by the manufacturer part number RT‑OO‑YLA‑408 and represents the British Rail sectorisation era.

Both wagons are produced to a highly accurate OO gauge standard in 1:76.2 scale. They feature correct differences in buffers, bogies and brake‑gear, RP25.110 gauge wheels on 26 mm axles, NEM coupler sockets and a minimum radius of 2nd radius.

The prototype units were among the 165 vacuum‑braked Borails built to BR diagrams 1/482 and 1/483 in the late 1950s, fitted with 8‑foot plate bogies and vacuum brakes. In the mid‑1980s many of the Borail BRAs were transferred to departmental service, where they have been used to convey rail, equipment and out‑of‑gauge pipework.

Since 2018 the rail freight operators EWS and DB have employed YLA Mullets for transporting out‑of‑gauge pipes from Hartlepool to Georgemas Junction, with several examples repainted in EWS livery and still operating in departmental duty.
