Manufacturer description

Metrobus was formed by Tillingbourne, a rural independent based in West Surrey, taking over former Orpington & District operations between Orpington and Croydon. This vehicle is carrying the Pearl Assurance adverts. Pearl grew from a loan club that started in 1857 as the Pearl Loan Company, operating out of a pub called the Royal Oak opposite the famous Whitechapel Bell Foundry. This joined with The Pearl Life Assurance & Sick Benefit Society which had begun in 1862 and was located nearby.

Oxford Diecast Pearl – 1:76 Scale is a model railway vehicle produced by Oxford Diecast. The model is supplied under part number RM084 and depicts a bus in the British Rail Blue livery of the pre‑TOPS era.

The vehicle represents a Metrobus service that was taken over by Tillingbourne, a rural independent operator based in West Surrey, after the former Orpington & District routes between Orpington and Croydon were transferred. The model carries Pearl Assurance advertising graphics, reflecting the historic sponsorship of the service.

Pearl Assurance originated as a loan club founded in 1857, operating from the Royal Oak public house opposite the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. In 1862 it merged with the Pearl Life Assurance & Sick Benefit Society, which was situated nearby. The model therefore incorporates both the transport and commercial branding of that period.
