Plymouth prospered and grew in the 14th and 15th century although it suffered many attempts at invasion. Several times the French invaded setting fires to homes, but were thwarted by locals who put up a strong resistance. In 1588 it witnessed the defeating of the Spanish Armada and the sailing of the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620. Today Plymouth is a thriving city with many attractions .
