BR Carflat wagons were built between 1959 and 1975.

Motorail was the public service allowing rail users to loadthe vehicles onto a service train - sit in a standard coach and relax on their journey. The service reduced in popularity as the motorway network expanded and closed in the 1980's.

Oxford Carflat Motorrail is a scale model of a British Rail Carflat wagon in the classic BR blue livery. The item is identified by the manufacturer part number OR76CAR003 and represents the pre‑TOPS era of British Rail blue, a period covering the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The real Carflat wagons were constructed between 1959 and 1975 and were used on the Motorail service, which allowed passengers to load their cars onto a train, travel in a standard coach and collect their vehicle at the destination. The service fell out of favour as the motorway network expanded and was discontinued in the 1980s.
