Manufacturer description

The GWR 2600 Class, commonly known as the Aberdares, were built for the Great Western Railway between 1900 and 1907. Designed under the direction of William Dean, the class comprised 80 heavy freight 2-6-0 locomotives intended primarily for hauling coal traffic, particularly from the South Wales. The design followed the Great Western’s standardisation policies of the period, sharing components and general layout features with other classes.

Withdrawals began in 1934, though a number of locomotives were retained in store and later reactivated during the early years of the Second World War to meet increased freight demands. The final examples were withdrawn by 1949.

Oxford GWR 2-6-0 2600 Aberdare – GWR Great Western Green 2634 (Sound Version) is a scale model representing a member of the Great Western Railway's 2600 Class, commonly known as the Aberdares. The model carries the manufacturer part number OR76ABD003XS and depicts a locomotive from the period of the British railway "Big Four" – LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.

The real 2600 Class locomotives were heavy freight 2‑6‑0 engines built between 1900 and 1907 under the direction of William Dean. A total of 80 were produced for the GWR, primarily to haul coal from South Wales, and they shared components and design features with other standardised GWR classes. Withdrawals of the class began in 1934, with some engines stored and later re‑activated during the early years of the Second World War to meet increased freight demand; the last examples were withdrawn in 1949.

This version of the model is supplied in a green livery and includes a sound module, offering an audible representation of the locomotive’s operation. It is intended for collectors and enthusiasts of historic British railway equipment.
