Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
The GWR 2600 Class, commonly known as the Aberdares, were built for the Great Western Railway between 1900 and 1907. Designed under the direction of William Dean, the class comprised 80 heavy freight 2-6-0 locomotives intended primarily for hauling coal traffic, particularly from the South Wales. The design followed the Great Western’s standardisation policies of the period, sharing components and general layout features with other classes.
Withdrawals began in 1934, though a number of locomotives were retained in store and later reactivated during the early years of the Second World War to meet increased freight demands. The final examples were withdrawn by 1949.

Oxford GWR 2-6-0 2600 Aberdare – GWR Great Western Green (model number 2634) is a scale representation of a member of the Great Western Railway's 2600 (Aberdare) class. The model is supplied by Oxford with the manufacturer part number OR76ABD003 and is intended to depict the locomotive as it appeared during the era of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
The original GWR 2600 class, designed under William Dean, comprised 80 heavy freight 2‑6‑0 locomotives built between 1900 and 1907 for hauling coal from South Wales. The design followed the railway's standardisation policy of the period, sharing components and layout features with other GWR classes. Withdrawals of the real locomotives began on 01/01/1934, with some returned to service during the early years of the Second World War, and the final examples were removed from traffic by 31/12/1949.
The model is painted in Great Western Green livery and is suitable for collectors and railway enthusiasts interested in the freight locomotives of the early twentieth‑century British railway network.
