Manufacturer description

The company was started at Haddenham, Cambridgeshire in May 1956 by Jack Richards, trading as J.W Richards with a five ton Bedford lorry which he bought for £150. The business became very successful after offering a nightly service from Cambridgeshire to the Nottingham wholesale fruit and vegetable market. Customers were soon added in the Mansfield area as were regular trips to Ripley and Derby markets. With the ever increasing demand for quality fresh produce the fleet grew rapidly and with it the numbers of staff. During the mid seventies the company earned the title of "Britain's number one spud specialist" with the capability of moving 1000 tons of potatoes a day. With the steady growth of the company and a developing customer base they moved into more general haulage. Curtainside trailers became more popular and because of the high quality of service the company became hauliers for many blue chip companies, with customers like Lever Bros and Kellogg's. Today the company has a very experienced and committed management team at both Fakenham and Northwich with plans for further expansion.

The model represents the original vehicle used by Jack Richards, who founded his haulage business in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire on 01/05/1956 as J.W Richards with a five‑ton Bedford lorry purchased for £150. The company expanded to provide nightly services to the Nottingham wholesale fruit and vegetable market and later added customers in Mansfield, Ripley and Derby. By the mid‑1970s the firm was described as “Britain’s number one spud specialist”, capable of moving 1,000 tonnes of potatoes per day, before diversifying into general haulage for blue‑chip clients such as Lever Bros and Kellogg’s.

Today the business operates from Fakenham and Northwich under an experienced management team, with plans for further expansion. The Oxford Diecast model offers collectors a detailed representation of the historic DAF 105 lorry associated with this long‑standing haulage operation.
