Manufacturer description

James Irlam, the Grandfather of David, Michael and Stewart started his one man business back in the 1940's. When the building of Manchester Airport began, his land stood in the way of runway development and he was forced to relocate to the Chelford area. From here, James transported milk churns to the Manchester dairies and returned with corn supplies for local farms. The business developed into James Irlam & Sons by James Kenneth Irlam and his three brothers with one truck in 1964, with David Irlam joining as a driver in the late 70's.The next generation expanded the business in 1980 starting with 5 new trucks and grew rapidly. Earlier this year the company was purchased by the Stobart group.

Oxford Diecast James Irlam – 1:76 scale model. Manufacturer part number DAF01CS. The model depicts the period known as the rebuilding of the railways.

The subject of the model is James Irlam, who founded a one‑man haulage business in the 1940s. When Manchester Airport was constructed his land was required for the runway, so he relocated to the Chelford area. From there he transported milk churns to Manchester dairies and returned with corn for local farms. The operation became James Irlam & Sons in 1964 when James Kenneth Irlam and his three brothers added a single truck, and David Irlam joined as a driver in the late 1970s. The next generation expanded the fleet in 1980 with five new trucks, and the company was purchased by the Stobart Group earlier this year.
