First launched in 1968, the second generation T2 was a great improvement on the previous split windscreen version of the 1950s. It was larger and heavier with a new wider front windshield and a bigger engine. It was manufactured initially in Germany before extending manufacture and/or assembly to the rest of Europe, the USA, Mexico and South America. The VW Type 2, classed as a Van/Minibus had a wide range of uses with body style variations to suit, including 3 door van, 4 door minibus, 2 door truck with regular cab and 4 door truck with crew cab amongst the many configurations.

Oxford Diecast Regatta Blue VW Van – 1:76 Scale is a die‑cast model produced under part number 76VW009. It depicts the vehicle in the British Rail blue livery used before the introduction of the TOPS system.
The model represents the second‑generation VW Type 2 (T2), which was first launched in 1968. Compared with the earlier 1950s version, the T2 featured a larger, heavier chassis, a wider front windscreen and a more powerful engine. Production initially began in Germany before extending to other European countries, the United States, Mexico and South America.
The VW Type 2 was marketed as a van/minibus and was available in numerous configurations, including a three‑door van, a four‑door minibus, a two‑door regular‑cab truck and a four‑door crew‑cab truck, among others. This model reflects those variants in the classic Regatta blue colour scheme.
