Manufacturer description

Leyland produced the PD2/12 between 1927 and 1969 continuously except for a three year gap during World War II. It operated nationally, including Scotland and for its latest Oxford outing, it appears as used by the Ayrshire Bus Owners, an independent co-operative bus company, which traded under the name of A1 Services Ltd based in Ardrossan. The company operated local buses throughout the area as well as the trunk route between Ardrossan and Kilmarnock. It also provided an express coach service between Ardrossan and Glasgow during the 1980s. A decade on and under several pressures, A1 Services became a subsidiary of Stagecoach and the name disappeared.

Our brightly decorated brilliant blue, cream and red double decker bus features the graphics of A1 Service and is registered NTF 9. Its destination blind indicates it going to Ardrossan via Dalry Road & Beggs Terr. The company address in Parkhouse Road, Ardrossan is printed behind the nearside front wheel, while the wheels and the interior of the bus repeat the red on the main body of the bus.

Oxford Diecast Leyland PD2/12 A1 Service is a die‑cast model bearing the manufacturer part number 76PD2008. It represents the British Railways Late Crest period and depicts a Leyland PD2/12 double‑deck bus as it appeared in service with A1 Services Ltd.

Leyland produced the PD2/12 continuously from 01/01/1927 until 31/12/1969, with a three‑year interruption during the Second World War. The model shows the vehicle in the livery of the Ayrshire Bus Owners co‑operative, which operated under the name A1 Services Ltd from Ardrossan. The company ran local services in the Ardrossan area, the trunk route between Ardrossan and Kilmarnock, and an express coach service to Glasgow during the 1980s. In the 1990s A1 Services became a subsidiary of Stagecoach and the brand name was discontinued.

The bus in the model is finished in a bright blue, cream and red colour scheme with A1 Service graphics. It is registered NTF 9 and the destination blind displays “Ardrossan via Dalry Road & Beggs Terr”. The company address “Parkhouse Road, Ardrossan” is printed behind the nearside front wheel, and the wheels and interior echo the red used on the main body.
