Manufacturer description

The Bedford MWD, first launched in 1937, was a 15 cwt general service truck which was used extensively by the British Army during WWII. It was based on the commercial 2-ton truck but to cope with the potentially uneven military terrain, its chassis was modified to give it extra ground clearance. Built to take a crew of one originally, it was built with a canvas roof and doors and a collapsible windscreen. Later versions had enclosed cab, metal doors and an improved windscreen. The Bedford MWD was widely used in North Africa during WWII for transporting troops, particularly in the armoured brigades. This model MWD truck comes in desert camouflage with 'canvas' back and detailed numbering/lettering on the front and back, as would have been used by the Royal Artillery in the desert and Malta in particular.

Oxford Diecast British Army Desert Bedford MWD – 1:76 Scale

Manufacturer part number: 76MWD002. The model represents a British Railways early‑crest period. The Bedford MWD was first launched in 1937 as a 15 cwt general‑service truck. It was based on the commercial 2‑ton Bedford and its chassis was altered to give extra ground clearance for uneven military terrain. The original version had a canvas roof, doors and a collapsible windscreen and was built for a single crew member. Later versions featured an enclosed cab, metal doors and an improved windscreen.

During the Second World War the Bedford MWD was used extensively by the British Army, particularly in North Africa, where it transported troops in armoured brigades. This die‑cast model is finished in desert camouflage, with a canvas‑style rear and detailed Royal Artillery numbering and lettering as would have been seen in the desert and in Malta. It is provided at a 1:76 scale suitable for railway modelling.
