The engine was mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and the car was equipped with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. It was a popular choice for both road and rally racing. It won the Monte Carlo Rally four times in a row from 1964 to 1967, and it also achieved success in other rallies such as the Tour de Corse and the Acropolis Rally. The MkII Cooper S was produced until 1970, and a total of 6,300 cars were built.
