Manufacturer description

This is the second fire appliance from New Zealand to feature in this issue of The Globe and they would look good together on your collecting shelf. Our Carmichael's Land Rover Redwing FT/6 conversion is part of Oxford's new tooling programme and this livery is only the second release.

In real life, the vehicle was first introduced in 1961 and provided a light four wheel drive fire appliances with extended cab to accommodate five fire-fighters. This new machine with built-in pump and 140-gallon water tank proved an ideal light all-terrain fire engine for county fire brigades in particular.

Here we see it as used by the New Zealand Fire Service in Temuka, a service town in the rich sheep and dairy farming region on the Canterbury Plains, around 142 Km south of Christchurch, where our fire appliance would have been in its element. Registered AH 9891, the vehicle is painted red with white roof and silver masking to the radiator, bumpers and roof ladders. The model features another authentic touch with orange roof beacon and silver spotlight on the roof above the cab.

Oxford Diecast Land Rover FT6 Carmichael New Zealand Fire Service – 1 is produced under the part number 76LRC005. The model represents a vehicle in the British Rail Blue (TOPS) period, and it forms part of Oxford’s new tooling programme.

The real Land Rover Redwing FT/6 conversion was introduced in 1961 as a light four‑wheel‑drive fire appliance. It features an extended cab for five fire‑fighters, a built‑in pump and a 140‑gallon (approximately 637 litre) water tank, making it suitable for county fire brigades operating in all‑terrain conditions.

In service the vehicle was used by the New Zealand Fire Service in Temuka, a town on the Canterbury Plains about 142 kilometres south of Christchurch. It carried the registration AH 9891 and was painted red with a white roof, silver masking on the radiator, bumpers and roof ladders, an orange roof beacon and a silver spotlight above the cab.

The die‑cast model includes these authentic details, making it a suitable addition for collectors of New Zealand fire service vehicles.
