Manufacturer description

Oxford’s first release on the 1950s Karmann Ghia hit your diecast shelf in a brilliant red with white roof.  Now it makes an equally dramatic entrance in black with a masked creamy white roof registered 170 NHU.

The Karmann Ghia was manufactured from 1955 until 1974, with over 445,000 being produced between the Ghia Works and the VW Osnabru̎ck plant.  Designwise, it hardly changed during its lifetime, nor was there any need with its very pretty body shape and elegant lines. It had been a highly successful collaboration between by Wilhelm Karmann and the Italian Carrozzeria Ghia Company and it was snapped up by VW. They promoted it as a practical and stylish 2+2 rather than a true sports car. The Karmann Ghia was available as either a 2-door 2+2 convertible or 2-door coupé sports car until it was classed  purely as a two-seater model.

All the distinctive detail is here on our 1:76 scale model.  The wheel inserts match the roof colour and this lovely cream colour has been used for the seats and the steering wheel. The Karmann Ghia ‘signature’ feature in silver across the boot alongside the Volkswagen name.

The model comes on a plinth, with a clear case lid and Oxford Automobile wrap.

Oxford Diecast Black & Lotus White VW Karmann Ghia
Manufacturer Part Number: 76KG002
Period represented by this model: British Railways Late Crest

The model is a 1:76 scale diecast replica of a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia painted in black with a masked creamy white roof and registered 170 NHU. Wheel inserts are coloured to match the roof, while the seats and steering wheel are finished in a matching cream tone. The boot bears the signature silver Volkswagen badge.

The original Karmann Ghia was produced from 1955 to 1974, with over 445,000 units built at the Ghia Works and the VW plant in Osnabruck. The design remained largely unchanged throughout its production run. It was the result of a collaboration between Wilhelm Karmann and the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia, marketed by Volkswagen as a practical and stylish 2+2 rather than a pure sports car. It was offered as a two‑door convertible or two‑door coupe and later re‑classified as a two‑seater.

The diecast kit is supplied on a plinth with a clear case lid and includes the Oxford Automobile wrap for display.
