This heavyweight construction truck appears in the bright yellow and black colour scheme of NCB (National Coal Board) registered EWJ 45J from 1979.
In real life, the dumper truck was produced on an AEC 690, Aveling Barford as well as a Scammell LD55 chassis. They would have had a badge on the front bar or grille denoting AEC, AB or Scammell but to make full use of the new tooling the badge has been omitted so Oxford can produce all three variants.
The specifications listed in the sales brochure of the period gave the in-depth details of vehicle components and operational attributes. And Oxford’s model contains a wealth of the physical features. The bright yellow bodywork extends to the wheels as well and an extra component has been added to the offside of the bonnet in the shape of an air cleaner. The front grille behind the bull bars is black, as is the interior and the steering wheel. Other external trim is finished in silver including the windscreen surrounds.
It is easy to imagine this chunky vehicle working in a mining environment where it would be in its element although we suspect its pristine appearance would be shortlived with all the coal dust and slagheaps around!

Oxford Diecast Scammell LD55 Dumper Truck NCB is a heavyweight construction vehicle model. The model carries the manufacturer part number 76ACD002 and represents the British Rail Blue livery used before the introduction of the TOPS system.
The truck is shown in the bright yellow and black colour scheme adopted by the National Coal Board for the vehicle registered EWJ 45J in 1979. In the real world the dumper was built on AEC 690, Aveling Barford and Scammell LD55 chassis, each normally bearing a front‑grille badge indicating the chassis maker. The Oxford version omits this badge to allow the same tooling to produce all three variants.
The model includes a detailed replica of the original specifications. The yellow bodywork extends to the wheel arches, an air‑cleaner fitting is mounted on the off‑side of the bonnet, and the front grille behind the bull bars is finished in black. The interior, steering wheel and grille are also black, while the windscreen surrounds and other external trim are rendered in silver.
The vehicle is presented as a robust, chunky dumper suitable for use in a mining environment, although the pristine finish would likely be quickly covered in coal dust and slag in actual service.
