Manufacturer description

The War Department (WD) “Austerity” 2-10-0 is a type of heavy freight steam locomotive that was introduced during the Second World War in 1943, and is a powerhouse of an engine. The Austerity 2-10-0 commands respect wherever it roams, its presence on the rails could not be ignored. The Austerity 2-10-0 was based on the Austerity 2-8-0, and was designed to have interchangeable parts by R.A. Riddles. It was built cheaply, but it was built powerful. It had the same power output as the 2-8-0 but a lighter axle load, making it suitable for secondary lines. 100 were built for the war effort, with 150 being built in total. Even now after 90 years, the Austerity still makes appearances on the rails, proving that the old guard won’t be put down easily.

Available in Longmoor Railway Blue, Olive Drab Green, Khaki Sand, and BR Black early crest.
Options include DCC Ready, DCC Sound and Smoke unit installed.

KR Models WD Austerity 2‑10‑0 (model number KRM‑WDA‑OO‑75‑R) is a 1:87 scale representation of the British Railways Early Crest locomotive, with DCC 21 compatibility. The model carries the reference 90775 and is supplied in BR Black early‑crest livery.

The real War Department “Austerity” 2‑10‑0 was introduced in 1943 as a heavy freight steam locomotive. Designed by R.A. Riddles, it shared power output with the earlier 2‑8‑0 design but had a lighter axle load, making it suitable for secondary routes. A total of 150 were built, 100 of them for wartime service. The locomotive remains in operation on heritage railways as of 2023.

The model includes a five‑pole brushless motor, cast chassis, fine brass fittings and sprung buffers. It has a minimum radius of 438 mm on second‑radius set‑track, a firebox flicker effect, a 21‑pin socket, NEM pocket couplings and a prefitted speaker. DCC‑ready versions can be fitted with DCC sound and smoke units.
