KR Models is set to release a pack of three GWR 'Mica B' refrigerated meat vans, which are expected to arrive in Q4 2024 or Q1 2025, subject to the manufacturer's discretion.
The 'Mica B' vans were a significant innovation in the early 1900s, featuring a carbonic acid machine that kept perishable goods fresh during long hauls. They were primarily used to transport chilled beef carcasses from ports such as Birkenhead to Smithfield and other markets.
The vans were characterised by their ventilated design and distinctive appearance, which is being accurately represented in the model. The pack includes three vans, numbered 105860, 105923, and 105966, each painted in classic GWR livery.
