In 1948 BR asked O.V.S Bulleid to come up with a solution to

help reduce overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London.

In 1949 2 Double Deck units rolled off the production line,
numbered 4001/4002 these were an experiment that lasted
22 years and finished on 1st October 1971.

In 1970 both units were repainted to BR Blue and renumbered to 4901 and 4902.

We will be producing both running numbers as 4 car packs. There will be 2 power cars, all will have internal lights.

Model details

KR Models Bulleid Class 4DD Double‑Deck EMU, 4‑car set, running numbers 4002/4902 in British Rail blue with full yellow ends. The kit carries the manufacturer part number KRM‑4DD‑OO‑R‑2‑B and is supplied DCC ready (DCC 21), with interior lighting fitted.

The model represents the post‑TOPS British Rail blue livery that the original units received in 1970, after being repainted from their earlier green scheme. The real units were built in 1949 as an experiment to reduce suburban overcrowding, entered service as 4001/4002, and operated for 22 years until 1 October 1971.

Each 4‑car pack includes two powered cars, close‑coupling, steel buffers and internal lights. The range is also available in full green, green with small yellow ends, and BR blue. Options include DCC fitted and DCC sound (LokSound V5.0).
