Era 6 (1967 to 1972) British Rail Blue (Pre-TOPS)
In 1948 BR asked O.V.S Bulleid to come up with a solution to help reduce overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London.
In 1949 2 Double Deck units rolled off the production line, numbered 4001/4002 these were an experiment that lasted 22 years and finished on 1st October 1971.
In 1970 both units were repainted to BR Blue and renumbered to 4901 and 4902.
We will be producing both running numbers as 4 car packs. There will be 2 power cars, all will have internal lights.

KR Models Bulleid Class 4DD Double‑Deck 4‑car EMU (4001/4901) in British Rail blue with full yellow ends, supplied with LokSound V5.0. The model is DCC‑ready and fitted with DCC sound, and includes interior lighting. Manufacturer part number 4DD‑OO‑S‑1‑B represents the pre‑TOPS period of British Rail blue livery.
The kit is offered as a four‑car set for each running number, comprising two powered cars. All units feature internal lights, close‑coupling, and steel buffers. The model is available in full green, green with small yellow ends, and the shown British Rail blue. Versions are supplied DCC ready, DCC fitted and DCC sound.
The original Bulleid double‑deck units were ordered by British Rail in 1948 to alleviate suburban overcrowding. Two prototypes entered service in 1949 as numbers 4001 and 4002 and operated for 22 years until withdrawal on 1 October 1971. In 1970 they were repainted British Rail blue and renumbered 4901 and 4902, colours reproduced in this model.
