In 1948 BR asked O.V.S Bulleid to come up with a solution to help reduce overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London.

In 1949 2 Double Deck units rolled off the production line, numbered 4001/4002 these were an experiment that lasted 22 years and finished on 1st October 1971.

In 1970 both units were repainted to BR Blue and renumbered to 4901 and 4902.

We will be producing both running numbers as 4 car packs. There will be 2 power cars, all will have internal lights.

KR Models Bulleid Class 4DD Double‑Decker 4‑car EMU, numbers 4002/4902, in British Rail Blue with full yellow ends. The model carries the manufacturer part number 4DD‑OO‑R‑2‑B and includes interior lighting. DCC fitting service is not applicable; the kit is offered in DCC‑ready, DCC‑fitted and DCC‑sound (LokSound V5.0) versions.

The prototype units were ordered by British Rail in 1948 to alleviate suburban overcrowding. Two double‑deck units entered service in 1949 as numbers 4001 and 4002 and operated for 22 years, being withdrawn on 01/10/1971. In 1970 both were repainted in BR Blue and renumbered 4901 and 4902.

The kit supplies a four‑car set with two power cars, close coupling, steel buffers and internal lights. It is available in full green, green with small yellow ends and the BR Blue livery.
