In 1948 BR asked O.V.S Bulleid to come up with a solution to help reduce overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London.

In 1949 2 Double Deck units rolled off the production line, numbered 4001/4002 these were an experiment that lasted 22 years and finished on 1st October 1971.

In 1970 both units were repainted to BR Blue and renumbered to 4901 and 4902.

We will be producing both running numbers as 4 car packs. There will be 2 power cars, all will have internal lights.

Model details

KR Models Bulleid Class 4DD Double‑Decker 4‑Car EMU (4001/4901) in BR green.

The model reproduces the British Railways Late‑Crest period. It carries the manufacturer part number 4DD‑OO‑R‑1‑G and includes interior lighting. DCC fitting is available as a separate service; the base model is not fitted with DCC.

The original units were ordered by British Railways in 1948 to alleviate suburban overcrowding, and two double‑deck units entered service in 1949 as numbers 4001 and 4002. The experiment continued for 22 years, ending on 1 Oct 1971. In 1970 the units were repainted in BR blue and renumbered 4901 and 4902.

KR Models will offer both running numbers as four‑car packs, each comprising two power cars and equipped with internal lights. Features include close coupling and steel buffers. The kits are available in full green, green with small yellow ends, and BR blue liveries.

Optional DCC configurations are DCC‑ready, DCC‑fitted, and DCC sound with LokSound V5.0.
