Era 6 (1967 to 1972) British Rail Blue (Pre-TOPS)
In 1948 BR asked O.V.S Bulleid to come up with a solution to help reduce overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London.
In 1949 2 Double Deck units rolled off the production line, numbered 4001/4002 these were an experiment that lasted 22 years and finished on 1st October 1971.
In 1970 both units were repainted to BR Blue and renumbered to 4901 and 4902.
We will be producing both running numbers as 4 car packs. There will be 2 power cars, all will have internal lights.

KR Models Bulleid Class 4DD Double Decker 4‑car EMU (model 4001/4901) is supplied in British Rail blue with full yellow ends and is DCC fitted. The model carries the manufacturer part number 4DD‑OO‑F‑1‑B and includes interior lighting.
The prototype units were commissioned by British Rail in 1948 to alleviate overcrowding on suburban routes to and from London. Two double‑deck units, numbered 4001 and 4002, entered service in 1949 and operated for 22 years until withdrawal on 1 Oct 1971. In 1970 the units were repainted in BR blue and renumbered 4901 and 4902.
The product is offered as a four‑car pack for each running number, comprising two power cars, internal lights, close coupling and steel buffers. It is available in full green, green with small yellow ends and BR blue. Variants include DCC Ready, DCC Fitted and DCC Sound (LokSound V5.0).
