GWR AA15 Toad 20-ton brake van W68571 in BR livery
Hornby AA15 20T ‘Toad’ Goods Brake Van is a model of a British Railways brake van produced for the OO gauge market. The model is finished in pristine condition, bears the running number W56748 and measures 107 mm in length. It is fitted with a NEM coupling, carries the BR grey livery and is listed under manufacturer part number R6835. The prototype is represented as a British Railways early crest vehicle, designed by the Great Western Railway and built at GWR Swindon Works sometime between 1894 and the 1950s.
The model depicts a four‑wheel brake van of the type used by British Railways, with a grey colour scheme and a BR grey livery. It is intended to represent the early British Railways era of brake vans that were introduced as part of a renewal programme following the withdrawal of older pre‑grouping designs. In 1923 a ten‑ton North Eastern design was completed, and in 1924 a new nineteen‑foot, twenty‑ton brake van incorporating features from the former Great Northern and North Eastern Railway types entered service. This model reflects that period of standardisation and modernisation.
