Hornby BR Period II 68' Dining/Restaurant Car, running number M236M, is an OO‑scale model representing a British Railways restaurant coach from the early Crest period (Era 4). The model measures 242 mm in length and is finished in pristine condition with a maroon (crimson) livery.
The coach is depicted as a London, Midland & Scottish Railway Period II design, classified as RU (Restaurant Unclassified) and fitted with a 12‑wheel arrangement. It was originally built by LMS at Derby Works (with additional work at Wolverton Works) between 1930 and 1932, and was designed by Sir Ernest Lemon for British Railways. The model has a minimum curve radius of 2 units.
During British Railways Eras 4 and 5, dining and catering services grew in popularity, leading to greater demand for dedicated restaurant coaches such as this 68 ft carriage, which the Hornby model accurately reproduces.
