History

This is a Motor Standard Coach, one of five coaches that make up a Class 800 bi-mode train. It is part of the Hitachi AT300 series of trains which initially replaced HSTs on GWR, branded ‘Intercity Express Train’ (IET) and as ‘Azumas’ on the East Coast Main Line. This vehicle is decorated in the brand-new Great British Railways (GBR) livery which is set to appear on trains during 2026.

Hornby RailRoad GBR Class 800 MS Coach 2 is a OO‑scale model measuring 341 mm in length, with a fixed bar coupling and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd Radius). It carries the manufacturer part number R40570 and represents a Great British Railways vehicle.

The coach is produced using the existing Class 800 tooling and is liveried in the new Great British Railways (GBR) colour scheme. It is intended to run with the R30561 Class 800 train pack and can be combined with additional motor standard coaches (R40571, R40572) to form a five‑car set.

Key features include a durable bodyshell, detailed moulded bogies and compatibility with other individual passenger coaches in the range. The model accurately reflects the official design specifications for the future GBR fleet.

The real‑world vehicle is a motor standard coach of the Hitachi AT300 series, part of a five‑coach Class 800 bi‑mode train originally branded Intercity Express Train (IET) on the Great Western Railway and Azuma on the East Coast Main Line. The GBR livery is scheduled to appear on service trains from 2026.
