Prototype Era
Era 8 (1983 to 1994) British Rail Sectorisation
31147 Floreat Salopia entered traffic on 19 November 1959 as D5565, allocated to March Shed and the locomotive remained in East Anglia until 9 October 1965 when it moved north to Tinsley.
Renumbered to 31147 under the TOPS scheme, the locomotive was one of three Class 31s fitted with Radio Electronic Token Blocks for use over the Cambrian route, also carrying BR Regional Railways branding over its 'Dutch' livery until it was named Floreat Salopia by John Thompson, a Shropshire Star competition winner, at Shrewsbury Cotton Hill Depot's Open Day on 30 May 1993.

Hornby BR Class 31 (Era 8) model, reference R3880, represents locomotive 31147 ‘Floreat Salopia’. It is a 5‑pole skew wound diesel with an A1A‑A1A wheel arrangement, painted in the Dutch grey and yellow livery. The model is built to OO gauge, measures 225 mm in length, and runs on a 5‑pole motor with all‑wheel power pickup. It uses a NEM coupler, a DCC‑ready 8‑pin socket, and the wheels are all powered. The minimum curve radius is the 2nd radius (438 mm). The locomotive is labelled with the number 31147 and the name ‘Floreat Salopia’.
The real locomotive entered traffic on 19 November 1959 as D5565, allocated to March shed and operating in East Anglia until 9 October 1965, when it transferred to Tinsley. Renumbered 31147 under the TOPS system, it was one of three Class 31s fitted with Radio Electronic Token Blocks for the Cambrian route and carried BR Regional Railways branding in its Dutch livery. The name ‘Floreat Salopia’ was bestowed by competition winner John Thompson at Shrewsbury Cotton Hill Depot Open Day on 30 May 1993.
