Prototype Era
Era 4 (1948 to 1956) British Railways Early Crest
63806 was one of the original Railway Operating Division 2-8-0 locomotives built by the North British Locomotive Company in May 1918 as ROD 1915.
Post-war, the locomotive returned to service with the LNWR before being transferred to the LNER in March 1928 and rebuilt as a Class O1 in August 1944. The locomotive was allocated to Thornton Junction from where it entered British Railways ownership in 1948, being renumbered to 63806.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

The Hornby BR Class O1 model, item R3730, represents the British Railways 2‑8‑0 locomotive 63806 in OO gauge. It is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket, uses a 5‑pole skew‑wound motor and runs on a minimum curve of 438 mm (second radius). The model measures 250 mm in length, has a pristine black finish with the early British Railways emblem, NEM couplings and power pickup via the driving wheels only.
The locomotive is depicted in its post‑war LNER appearance, designed by Edward Thompson and built in 1944; it entered British Railways service in 1945 and was allocated the running number 63806. The prototype locomotive was originally constructed as a Railway Operating Division 2‑8‑0 by the North British Locomotive Company in May 1918, later transferred to the LNWR, rebuilt as a Class O1 in August 1944 and taken over by British Railways in 1948.
This model reflects the early British Railways crest period and is intended for collectors and railway enthusiasts seeking an accurate representation of the LNER O1 class.
