History
Although second in the BR number sequence, this ‘A4’ was one of the last to be built, completed in April 1938 as LNER No. 4499 and named ‘Pochard’. It was renamed ‘Sir Murrough Wilson’ in 1939 after one of the LNER’s directors. Renumbered ‘2’ in 1946, it received its BR number 60002 in May 1948.
Originally painted Garter Blue, it lost its side skirting and was painted plain black during the war, before returning to blue in 1946. From 1950 it ran in BR blue with black and white lining, before a repaint into lined-BR green in August 1951. It received its double-chimney in 1957 and was withdrawn from Gateshead shed in May 1964.

Hornby BR Class A4 locomotive 60002 “Sir Murrough Wilson” is an OO gauge model fitted with a HM7000 DCC decoder, sound module and a pre‑installed Gen 2 steam generator. The model is based on the early British Railways crest period and is supplied in BR lined green livery.
The locomotive has a 5‑pole skew wound motor, die‑cast chassis, boiler, connecting rods and valve gear, and brass safety valves. It features metal sprung buffers, NEM couplings, a quick‑release locomotive‑to‑tender connector and a pogo‑pin wheel pickup system. The tender carries a separately fitted simulated coal load and a water reservoir capable of about 20 minutes of continuous steam. The steam generator uses piezo‑element technology with an optical sensor to synchronise chuff rate to wheel speed and offers adjustable output via the decoder.
Electronics include a pre‑fitted 21‑pin HM7000 decoder, speaker, firebox flicker and a tender speaker. The sound profile is recorded from real LNER A4 locomotives and is synchronised with the chuff and steam effects. The model is compatible with NMRA DCC controllers and the HM7000 app, and requires a DCC controller or the HM7000 app for operation.
Historically the locomotive was completed on 04/04/1938 as LNER No 4499 “Pochard”, renamed “Sir Murrough Wilson” in 1939, renumbered 2 on 05/05/1946 and received BR number 60002 on 05/05/1948. It was originally painted Garter Blue, later ran in black, BR blue with lining and finally in BR lined green from 08/08/1951. A double chimney was fitted in 1957 and the locomotive was withdrawn from Gateshead shed on 05/05/1964.
