Prototype Era
Era 11 (2016 to 2026) The Last Days of Privatisation
These newly tooled bi-mode multiple units are based on the Hitachi A-train design with 13 five-car units introduced from June 2014 to replace Class 221s on services between London, Birmingham New Street and stations along the North Wales Coast Line. They also operate along the Blackpool North line.
Their ability to switch seamlessly from electric to diesel power eliminates the need for long-distance diesel operation along partly electrified routes. Owned by Rock Rail and leased to Avanti West Coast, the units are based on Oxley Depot, Wolverhampton.
Our OO gauge 5-Car Train Pack emulates the attractive train beautifully, with two model power cars (one motorised and one dummy), plus three coaches. This train pack is DCC ready for digital upgrade if required.
