The Stafford firm of W.G Bagnall built a range of steam and diesel shunting locomotives for industrial and shunting use, supplying a number of types to the National Coal Board during the 1950s.
Locomotive production ceased in 1961 and the last two 4w Diesel-Hydraulic shunters produced were built for the firm of Leys Malleable Castings Co. Ltd in Lincoln, a typical industrial customer for the small diesel shunter market, although similar locomotives found work across the United Kingdom during the 1960s and 1970s in British Railways' departmental use.

Hornby RailRoad BR, Bagnall 0‑4‑0DH, 01426 – Era 7 is a OO‑scale model of a diesel‑hydraulic shunting locomotive built by W.G. Bagnall in the 1950s–1960s. The model is finished in pristine blue livery, carries the running number 01426 and is supplied as a non‑DCC item (DCC status: No). It has a 3‑pole motor, a minimum curve radius of 371 mm (first radius), and an overall length of 110 mm. The wheel arrangement is 0‑4‑0, and the locomotive is presented in the British Rail blue TOPS livery.
W.G. Bagnall, based in Stafford, produced a range of steam and diesel shunters for industrial customers, notably the National Coal Board, until locomotive production ceased in 1961. The final two four‑wheel diesel‑hydraulic shunters were built for Leys Malleable Castings Co. Ltd in Lincoln, and similar locomotives were employed across the United Kingdom in British Railways departmental service during the 1960s and 1970s.
