The North Eastern Railway Class ES1 locomotive was a class of two steeplecab electric locomotives commissioned by the NER in 1902. Both locomotives passed to the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923 and then to British Railways in 1948, but both were withdrawn before TOPS numbers could be applied.

Heljan Highly Detailed Weathered North Eastern Railway ES1 LNER Unlined Black Bo‑Bo Electric Locomotive No 1 is a limited‑edition model released as part of the “Rails of Sheffield” range. The model carries the manufacturer part number 1202DW and is finished in a weathered black livery.

The locomotive is equipped with interior LED cab light and headlights, a powerful 5‑pole motor and is DCC ready (DCC 18). It is supplied with fine‑scale sprung pantograph, sprung buffers and is sound ready, allowing a sound upgrade to be fitted separately.

The model represents the North Eastern Railway Class ES1, a pair of steeple‑cab electric locomotives commissioned in 1902, which later passed to the LNER in 1923 and to British Railways in 1948 before withdrawal. The period depicted is the “Big Four” era (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
